A Tribute to Stacey

I found out today that the scrapping world has lost a wonderful creator, a caring mother to three young girls, a loving wife to Marty and a life long friend.

Today I say goodbye to my dear friend Stacey, who lost her courageous 2 year battle with brain cancer this week. I met Stacey over 3 years ago where she truly taught me the meaning of loving your family, your craft and yourself.

My sympathy and prayers go out to her family in this time of grief.

Stacey, you will be greatly missed. May you be at peace.

A Life Update!

Howdy all! I haven't really had time or the energy to update the blog as much I had hoped to but I just wanted to stop in and tell you where and what we're up to.

My darling husband has found us a home in BC to live in. He took possession of it the day he was offered it so we now have a roof over our head when we arrive out in the Rockies.

Living without my hubby has been harder than expected. Spencer hasn't taken to living without Daddy very well and so life is just rough for us both right now. We will be overjoyed to see Todd when we get to BC.

The moving van packed full of our house hold belongings was supposed to arrive at our new home on Saturday but getting hold of the moving company has been rather exhausting! We were hoping they would arrive on a day when Todd wasn't scheduled for work, for obvious reasons and the company still has to return my calls to see if this indeed is what is due to happen.

My mom, Spencer and I are due to leave next Friday... only 7 days from now on our across the country drive. We are crossing the border and traveling through the States to help cut down on the driving time. The route we are taking is as direct to our new home as we could possibly get.

On Saturday, I am due to teach 2 classes at the Scrapping Bug in Kitchener and Spencer will spend the day with my sister and her boyfriend. I'm looking forward to just plain getting out of the house!!!

Gotta run! Life just seems to be whizzing by and I sure hope this next week speeds by quickly too! Spencer and I anxious to see Todd and we just need to be together as a family... and soon!

Want to be the Next Guest Designer?

Mon Ame Memories'
Tour De France Guest Designer Contest
Are you ready to be our Guest Designer for the month of November?

We are looking for someone who is creative, can work with a great monthly kit, can host a challenge, motivate and inspire our community and be able to be an active member of our board.

Welcome to the Tour De France hosted by the Mon Ame Memories Design Team. We will be hosting challenges for you to complete each week. The challenges MUST be completed by the time limit of that particular stage. But we don't want you to get discouraged if you don't make it one week. Perhaps you could have gotten a flat tire or leg cramps on that particular stage. That is okay. We still want you to finish the stage. You will be penalized points for late entries. The total point value will be 1/4 the full amount of points.

The projects will be judged by the design team and will be given a point value. The Top 5 ladies from each week will be assigned a jersey.

#1: Yellow Jersey
#2: Green Jersey
#3: White Jersey
#4: Rainbow Jersey
#5: Red Polka Dot Jersey

The rest of the list will be put into the Peloton. Do not get discouraged if you are put into the Peloton. There will be other ways for you to gain some points throughout the week. Each week we will be having a Time Trial. The Time Trial will be a timed challenge that will be posted on Wednesday. There will be specific rules on what you are to create. The first person to create the challenge will receive bonus points for the next round. Each week we will have a different challenge. They will be difficult and thought-provoking challenges. Each week we can have a different Yellow Jersey rider. You just have to work hard and stay on with the challenges. It is really anyone's race.

During the race you will be asked to be "active" in the forums. We want to see how you are going to handle being a Guest Designer. We want someone who will be a part of our team for November. We don't want a person to just get the kit, create with it, post a challenge and never show up. Being active during the contest will also get you some bonus points. There also might be some RAK's along the way as well.

To sign up for this contest you have to be a member of Mon Ame Memories. Register in the forum and introduce yourself in the "Introductions Forum". You will have to accumulate at least 25 "active" posts before the start of the race which will be Sept 28th at 11:59pm PST. By active we mean actual posts. (not smiley's and/or acronyms) But I am sure you will understand what active means if you are applying for this contest. We will also ask you to post two examples of your work. This has no bearing on who wins. We just want to have you share some of your work with us and also with the community.

Below is a breakdown of the contest week by week.

***Week #1: Sign Up Weeks***

There is always enough left over to create more projects, of course, and we would love to see what else you can create with it.

Big Plans Ahead!!

We have found out in the past week that my hubby was hired on to a new FT position.... except it's 3300km away from home! Yup... the Israels family is moving to British Columbia!

We found out late last week that Todd was hired on to work in the 2nd largest coal mine in the world. He has to be in BC to start his new job on the 22nd and he's driving out so he has to leave ahead of time.

He's a shot of the area where he will be working....

It's nestled in the Rockies mountains in the South Eastern corner of BC. the above little town in Elkford.

We will most likely live in the larger town below Elkford, Sparwood. It's home to the largest truck in the world!!

That little person standing next to the wheel is my husband!!!!

Spencer and I will be staying behind for a few weeks while Todd looks for a place to live and then we will join him in October.

Wish us luck!

It's Snowing... in September?

Yup... apparently winter time is close.. well, according to this card it is!

I loved the 2 children out in the snow making a snowman stamp by Gina K. Designs' called her "Got Snow?" stamp set! I paired it with the branch from the "Flowers for Daisy" set and I made it appear as if it were a snow globe.

First, I used my largest circular Spellbinder's Nestability and embossed a large circle on to my card base. I ran a thin tipped marker along the embossed mark to make it stand out. Then I stamped the "Got Snow?" image inside the circle shape.

Then I coloured my image with Copic markers and chalks and finally added some liquid applique medium using a heat gun for some snowy dimension.

I then stamped 3 branch images on to a piece of scrap white cardstock, added extra colouring and shading using my Copic markers again and cut them out.

I adhered the 3 branches using a tape runner adhesive and some foam adhesive to help raise them off the surface of my card base. A few drops of cherry red Stickles for some berries and the card was complete!

A close up....

I hope you enjoyed a sprinkling of snowy inspiration today! Stay cool!
